"Canzone Preferita" was a project I created while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. As I wandered through the outskirts of the city, I wanted to do more than just capture the landscape. I wanted to connect with the people who called Florence home.
With a mix of broken Italian, English, and a lot of pointing to my camera, I’d ask strangers if I could take their photo. Once I had their attention, I’d follow up with, "Qual è la tua canzone preferita?" It was a simple question, "What is your favorite song?", but led to surprisingly intimate moments. People would pause, smile, and drift off into memories about the songs.
There was something special about those interactions. The mix of awkwardness, curiosity, and the universal language of music. What started as a photography project turned into a collection of small, meaningful connections, making Florence feel not just like a place I was visiting, but a community I was briefly a part of.
